Before There Were Guests, There Was a Table

Before There Were Guests, There Was a Table

Why Meals Are the Heart of Life at The Inn at Richiș

Before there were rooms prepared, fires lit, or doors opened to guests, there was a table.

A table meant for candlelight.
For conversation.
For shared meals and unhurried evenings.

At The Inn at Richiș, everything begins — and returns — to the table.

A Table Is Where Transylvania Reveals Itself

In Transylvania, food is never just nourishment. It is history, hospitality, and connection, all served at once.

In villages like Richiș, meals mark the rhythm of the day. They gather people together. They create space for stories to be told and passed on. They turn neighbors into friends and visitors into part of the household.

We knew that if we were to open an inn here, it would not be built around a lobby or a bar — it would be built around a table.

Candlelight Changes Everything

There is something transformative about a candlelit table.

Time slows. Conversations deepen. The outside world fades gently into the background. What remains is warmth, presence, and attention — to the food, to the wine, and to one another.

At The Inn at Richiș, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are often served by candlelight, not for drama, but for atmosphere. Candlelight invites you to linger. To savor. To stay just a little longer.

This is not dining as performance.
It is dining as belonging.

Shared Tables, Shared Moments

Our meals are served table d’hôte, often at communal tables in our Fireplace Room, Wine Cellar, or Courtyard.

Strangers arrive with polite smiles.
They leave having shared wine, laughter, and stories.

This is not forced togetherness. It happens naturally, because good food and an unhurried pace create openness. Conversations wander from travel stories to family recipes, from laughter to quiet reflection.

Again and again, guests tell us the same thing:
“The meals were where everything came together.”

Food With Roots, Not Trends

The food at The Inn at Richiș is shaped by season, place, and tradition.

Our dishes are inspired by:

  • Local and seasonal ingredients
  • Family recipes passed down through generations
  • Traditional Transylvanian and Saxon influences
  • The simple idea that food should feel honest and comforting

Local house wines are poured generously with dinner, chosen to complement both the meal and the moment. Bread is broken and shared. Desserts arrive slowly, often accompanied by stories.

And as the evening gently comes to a close, there is nothing quite like sharing a small glass of traditional Transylvanian brandy — Țuică, clear and warming — or a glass of sour cherry brandy, Vișinată, rich and gently sweet. These final rituals mark the end of a beautiful evening, inviting guests to linger just a little longer at the table.

This is food and drink meant to be enjoyed together — never rushed, never staged, and never forgotten.

Meals as the Rhythm of the Day

When guests choose our Full Board or All Inclusive experiences, meals become the gentle structure of their stay.

Breakfast opens the day calmly.
Lunch brings everyone back together.
Dinner becomes the moment the day releases its hold.

There is no need to search for restaurants or check the time. The table is ready. The place is set. The evening unfolds as it should — slowly, warmly, and without interruption.

This rhythm is the quiet luxury we value most.

Gemütlichkeit Lives at the Table

The German word Gemütlichkeit describes warmth, comfort, coziness, and a feeling of belonging — and nowhere is it felt more strongly than around a shared table.

It is the crackle of the fire nearby.
The clink of glasses.
The sense that no one is in a hurry to leave.

At The Inn at Richiș, the table is where guests feel most at home — even if they arrived as strangers just hours before.

A Table Where Strangers Become Friends

Again and again, we watch it happen.

Guests arrive from different countries, different lives, different journeys. They sit down together, unsure of what to expect. And by the end of the evening, they are laughing, exchanging stories, and planning tomorrow’s walk together.

This is the magic of the table.

It dissolves distance.
It invites connection.
It reminds us that hospitality is, at its heart, about sharing.

Why Everything Begins Here

Before there were guests, there was a table — because we believed that if we created a place where people could eat well and feel at ease, everything else would follow.

The rooms, the fireplaces, the village, the hills — all of it matters. But it is at the table where Transylvania is truly tasted, where time slows, and where the Inn comes alive.

This is why meals are not an amenity at The Inn at Richiș.
They are the heart of life here.

“Transylvania Is a Way of Life — Taste It All.”
