Transylvania Is a Way of Life: A Stay at The Inn at Richis

There are places you visit.

And then there are places that invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember what it feels like to simply be.

The Inn at Richis is one of those places.

Tucked into the beautiful Saxon village of Richis in the heart of Transylvania, The Inn is more than a place to sleep. It is an invitation to experience a different rhythm of life—one shaped by centuries of history, beautiful traditions, warm hospitality, local wine, crackling fires, quiet courtyards, and mornings that begin without an alarm.

Here, “Transylvania is a way of Life.”

And your stay begins the moment you walk through the door.

Coffee with the Sound of the Village Waking Up

Morning at The Inn at Richis doesn’t begin with traffic, emails, or the hurried noise of a city.

It begins slowly.

You wake in one of our beautiful bedrooms, surrounded by the warmth and character of an authentic Saxon home. Original architectural details and carefully selected Romanian Saxon furnishings create a feeling that is both elegant and deeply connected to the history of the village.

Outside your window, Richis is beginning another day.

Perhaps you hear a rooster in the distance. Perhaps the village is still wonderfully quiet. The morning light begins to touch the Saxon rooftops, and for a moment, there is nowhere you need to be.

You make yourself a freshly brewed coffee.

You sit.

And you look out the window.

Coffee with the sound of the village waking up.

It is a very simple pleasure—but here, it feels extraordinary.

This is what it means to slow down.

This is what it means when we say:

“Transylvania is a way of Life.”

A Bedroom With a Sense of History

There is something special about sleeping in a room that feels connected to the place around it.

The bedrooms at The Inn at Richis have been created to preserve the character and soul of the historic Saxon house while providing the comfort you expect from a boutique inn.

Authentic Romanian Saxon furnishings, beautiful textures, traditional details, comfortable beds, and carefully chosen touches surround you.

Nothing feels mass-produced.

Nothing feels anonymous.

Instead, the rooms feel as though they belong to Richis.

You are not simply staying in Transylvania.

You are staying in a piece of Transylvania’s history.

And when evening comes, returning to your room feels like returning to your own private corner of the village.

An Afternoon Measured in Wine and Fire

Perhaps after exploring Richis and the surrounding countryside, you return to The Inn in the afternoon.

There is no need to rush.

This is your time.

You may find yourself drawn to the fireplace room, where a beautiful fire burns and fills the room with warmth.

You settle into a comfortable chair.

A glass of Romanian wine is poured.

The fire crackles.

Conversation slows.

Or perhaps there is no conversation at all.

You simply sit and enjoy the moment.

The wine comes from a country with a long and fascinating winemaking tradition. Here at The Inn, wine isn’t simply something to drink—it is part of the story of Richis and its Saxon heritage.

Outside, the afternoon fades toward evening.

Inside, the fire continues to glow.

And you realize that you haven’t checked the time for hours.

Beneath the Inn: 300 Years of History

Then there is the wine cellar.

Step below the Inn and you enter another world.

Our recently renovated wine cellar is approximately 300 years old—a beautiful space where the history of the house can be felt in the walls around you.

This is not a modern wine bar designed to look historic.

This is history.

A place that has witnessed generations of life in Richis.

And now, after its careful renovation, it offers our guests a place to gather, relax, taste Romanian wine, and experience the atmosphere of the old Saxon house.

At its heart is a beautiful Romanian Soba fireplace.

The Soba brings an unmistakable warmth to the cellar. Its traditional presence connects the room to an older Transylvanian way of living, when warmth, food, wine, family, and conversation gathered around the fire.

Imagine settling beside it with a glass of Romanian wine.

The stone and old walls surrounding you.

The warmth of the Soba.

The soft light.

The quiet.

There is nowhere else you need to be.

For a moment, the modern world feels very far away.

An Evening in the Courtyard

Eventually, the evening draws you outside.

The courtyard at The Inn becomes a different place as the sun disappears.

The air cools.

The village becomes quiet.

Above you, the Transylvanian sky begins to darken and the first stars appear.

Then the moon rises.

And beyond the courtyard, the silhouette of the beautiful Richis Saxon church steeple rises against the night sky.

You sit with a drink in your hand.

Perhaps tonight it is our own “Spirit of Richis.”A glass of our traditional homemade plum Tuica or our traditional homemade sour cherry Visinata.

You take a sip.

You look toward the church steeple.

The village is quiet.

And suddenly, you understand something that is difficult to explain in a brochure.

Transylvania isn’t simply a destination.

It is a feeling.

It is the warmth of an old house.

The smell of a wood fire.

The taste of Romanian wine.

The sound of a village waking up.

The sight of a centuries-old church steeple beneath the moon.

It is sitting in a courtyard with nowhere else to go.

It is conversation that lasts longer than expected.

It is waking without an alarm.

It is remembering that life doesn’t always have to move so quickly.

“Transylvania is a way of Life.”
