Bringing History Back to Life at The Inn at Richiș
The renovation of the front façade of The Inn at Richiș and the interior courtyard walls was one of the most rewarding and challenging phases of our restoration journey. Because the house dates back to the 1700s, our goal was not simply to renovate, but to honor the centuries of history embedded within its walls. We sought to preserve the character and authenticity of this remarkable Saxon home while carefully incorporating modern elements that would provide comfort and efficiency for today’s guests.
In keeping with traditional Transylvanian architecture, we chose a beautiful Transylvanian blue for the exterior, accented with a warm cream-colored trim. This combination reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region while creating a welcoming and timeless appearance. The color scheme allows the Inn to stand proudly among the historic homes of Richiș, celebrating the village’s unique character and preserving its visual identity.
One of the most significant improvements was the replacement of all modern vinyl windows that had been added over the years. In their place, we installed handcrafted solid wood windows with double-pane glass. These new windows respect the traditional style of the house while improving energy efficiency and comfort throughout the seasons. The result is a perfect balance of heritage and practicality, allowing guests to experience the authenticity of a centuries-old home without sacrificing modern conveniences.
As with any restoration project, preparation proved to be the most important step. Countless hours were spent repairing, cleaning, and carefully preparing the walls before a single coat of paint was applied. We believed that if the foundation was done correctly, the beauty of the finished project would naturally follow. Every stone, every surface, and every detail deserved patience and care.
This renovation was never just about paint, plaster, or windows. It was about preserving the “Spirit of Richiș” and creating a place where guests can experience the warmth, comfort, and sense of belonging that define village life in Transylvania. Here at The Inn at Richiș, we believe that “Transylvania is a way of Life.”It is found in the craftsmanship of old homes, the stories shared among neighbors, the rhythm of the seasons, and the quiet joy of gathering around a fire with a glass of local wine.
The completed restoration reflects the German concept of “Gemütlichkeit”: a feeling of warmth, comfort, friendship, and well-being. It is this spirit that guided every decision we made and continues to welcome every guest who passes through our doors. Through thoughtful restoration and respect for tradition, The Inn at Richiș stands as both a tribute to the past and an invitation to experience the timeless charm of Transylvania.
